2010 Union Hall & Baltimore
Written by June
Monday, 02 August 2010

The August bank holiday weekend saw two busy days of rowing for the Club with Championship competitions in Union Hall on the Sunday and in Baltimore on the Monday.  The Club’s teams competed strongly with considerable success.  The U14 Ladies team comprising Steffi Harrington, Floren Deasy, Roisin O’Brien and Grainne Deasy Dunne rowed hard to challenge the leading team and to win silver medals on both days.  The team are coxed by Paul Deasy and trained by Killian O’Riordan.  The U16 Men continue to challenge the leaders Rosscarbery also, again achieving silver medals on both days.  Rowing for U16 Men this past weekend were Geoff Wycherley, Niall Shepherd, Phillip Poillot and Alan Creedon.  The Under 18 team won magnificently on both days to retain their place on the leader board in the U!8 Championship; rowing for Ring U18 are Damien O’Driscoll, Jack Malone, Padraic O’Leary and Shane O’Donovan, coxed by Marguarite Deasy.  The Intermediate Men have been working hard for their gold medals in recent Championship regattas, but were denied on Sunday, only to finally achieve their goal on Monday when all the hard work at training paid off with a magnificent win in Baltimore.  Rowing for Ring Intermediate Men were Paul Deasy, Killian O’Riordan, Dave O’Shea and Rob Morning, coxed by Marguarite Deasy.  All the other teams competing for Ring, represented the Club well in their categories and continue to show improvements week on week.  Ring are now looking forward to the remainder of the County Final to be held this Saturday at Cuskinny at 2pm and indeed, the final Championship regatta at Schull on this Sunday.  The All Ireland Finals are looming close now, scheduled for the following weekend at Aghada and Ring are hopeful of bringing home some additional silverware and medals following last year’s outstanding successes with All Ireland gold medals for their U14s team and All Ireland bronze medals for their U18 team.
